Life Drawing 2 ft the True First Life Drawings
Stay tuned for the end of this post for the life drawings I lost in the last post!
3 minute poses. I actually really love how these came out. I am definitely getting more confident with my drawing.
10 minute poses. I also really love this one. I like how I overlapped them so they seem like onion skinned animation frames. I also seem to be getting better at drawing feet, which I'm very happy about.
We were also given a tip that the hands are about as big as the face, which also helped me, since I always seem to draw the head too big. That, and I'm now trying to always downsise the head from the initial sketch.
15 minutes. And here's where my good streak came to an end. I sorely misjudged the amount of time I had for this drawing. You can tell that the bottom half is precise and in proportion whereas the top half is...a mess. I'm normally used to drawing the body from the inside out, so this was a very difficult task for me. I wish I'd had more time with this one, as I think I could have really pulled it off, and it was quite mentally challenging, so I would have liked to have seen it to its completion.
30 minutes. For this drawing we used midtone sugar paper and different colour pastels as well as charcoal. I first did the initial sketch and shading in a colour slightly darker than the midtone of the paper, then went in with the charcoal to emphasise the darkest areas. I would have gone in again with the white to add highlights, but I ran out of time. I should really speed up.
30 minutes. Another white on black drawing like last week. I love being able to pick out the highlight and have the form just manifest itself from the black.
Then finally a 10 minute sketch to finish. I was pretty happy with this until I saw that right shoulderblade. Sigh. Shows that sometimes you have to step back from your drawing every once in a while to just check that everything's working together.
Okay! As promised, here are some pictures of the drawings from the true first life drawing session I dug up from the depths of my phone.
Cecil(ia?) the Skelleton
Quick action poses of two people
10 minute sketch of two people in separate poses.
Even from these sketches, I can already tell I've improved, which is awesome. I hope to continue improving and gain confidence in my drawing(and to speed up a bit!).
