Pitch - Inkling
My story was put together with the random prompts of To Kill a Mockingbird, Robin Hood, Fatima and the Dream Thief, and an ink pen. Through these prompts I put together a story about a bird who creates dreams, and started going kind of crazy drawing birds.
Initially, I had the bird hold the ink pen in its' mouth, but then my friend suggested I make the beak the pen instead. After some more practice sketches, I finally started to get a feel of the character, and solidified his design.
The story is that as the sun goes down, little birds descend from the moon. These little birds go into people's minds and draw their dreams with their beaks. Their aim is to make the dreamer smile with their dream, then they can move to the next dream. The particular bird we follow I nicknamed Nib, who is the Michael Bay of these dreambirds. He is an expert at creating huge, crazy, exciting dreams, and pops in and out of people's homes at high speed. Then, he arrives at one dream, and begins to create his usual crazy stuff...but the dreamer doesn't smile. Thinking it's a little weird, he creates another dream, even bigger than the last, but they still don't smile! We then go through a montage of him building up and up and up, more and more insane dreams, until he's created a huge insane pile of dream stuff. This is where I started the animatic.
That one tiny drop of ink drops down and turns into a vague little dog shape, and suddenly, the dreamer smiles! Nib watches this happen in shock, then starts to leave, looking back one more time before flying to the next place. He learns that sometimes, less is more, and takes it with him as he flies away.
I really love the style I've got, and really hope my story is enough to get people on my team. Wish me luck!
